Hims Alternatives in NZ: What Kiwi Men Can Actually Get (2026)

Based on the clinical experience of Dr Mark Morunga, NZ-registered doctor · Updated October 2026 · 8 min read

If you've searched for Hims from New Zealand, you've probably hit the same wall as everyone else: the site looks great, the prices look good, and then you find out none of it ships here. This guide explains why, and what Kiwi men can actually use instead - for hair loss, premature ejaculation, erectile dysfunction and for the other things Hims is known for.

The short version

Hims is a US company. It ships within the United States only, its doctors are licensed in the US, and its prices are in US dollars for US products. None of that works in New Zealand. But the treatments Hims prescribes such as finasteride, minoxidil, topical combinations, ED and PE medication are all available here, through New Zealand-registered doctors, at NZ prices. Magna is the doctor-led service built to do exactly that for Kiwis: online assessment, a New Zealand doctor, treatment delivered to your door, from $49 a month.

Why you can't use Hims in New Zealand

Three reasons, and none of them are fixable with a VPN.

It doesn't ship here

Hims delivers within the US (a separate UK business serves the UK). There's no NZ option at checkout.

Its doctors can't prescribe for you

Hims' providers are licensed in US states. A prescription from a US doctor isn't valid in New Zealand, and no NZ pharmacy can dispense against it.

You can't legally import it without a NZ prescription

Prescription medicines like finasteride can only be brought into New Zealand for personal use if you hold a valid prescription from a NZ-registered practitioner. Parcels without one are routinely held by Customs.

Ordering from overseas sites that claim to ship here is a good way to lose your money and your medication.

So the question isn't "how do I get Hims in NZ" it's "what's the New Zealand equivalent."

What Hims actually offers and the NZ version of each

What Hims doesAvailable in NZ?Where Kiwis get it

The hair loss and sexual health treatments - the reason most men look at Hims - are all available here. The delivery model Hims made famous (quiz, doctor review, discreet delivery, no clinic visit) exists in New Zealand too. It just has a different name.

The alternatives, compared honestly

1. Magna - the NZ doctor-led online service

Magna is a New Zealand-owned telehealth service built around the same model as Hims, with two differences that matter: the doctors are New Zealand-registered, and there are physical clinics behind it.

What you get

A short online assessment, a phone consultation and - if treatment is right for you - a prescription compounded in NZ and delivered free to your door in plain packaging. Follow-ups and adjustments are included, and there are no lock-in contracts.

Who's behind it

Magna's clinical lead is Dr Mark Morunga, a NZ-registered doctor with over 30 years in practice with a special focus on hair loss and men's health. The clinical team behind Magna has treated more than 5,000 patients through The Hair Clinic and Essential Men's Clinic in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch - the protocols used online are the ones developed there.

The hybrid option nobody else offers

Because Magna is backed by real clinics, if your doctor decides you need to be seen in person ie. for a scalp examination, a condition that needs closer assessment it can be arranged through the physical clinics in Auckland rather than sending you back to square one. Online where online works; in person where it doesn't.

What it treats

Hair loss (finasteride, minoxidil, topical finasteride + minoxidil, dutasteride, low-dose oral minoxidil), and erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation, all through the same online process.

Price

Plans from $49 a month, combination treatment from $59, with the doctor, medicine and delivery included. Price shouldn't stand in the way of quality healthcare. Magna gives Kiwis access to affordable hair loss treatment led by experienced NZ doctors. If you find a comparable service for less, Magna will match it. T&Cs apply.

2. In-person hair loss clinics

New Zealand has established hair clinics - the Australian chain Ashley & Martin has NZ branches, and Gro has an Auckland clinic focused on transplants. These are the right option if you want a hands-on assessment or you're considering surgery.

Trade-offs

You're in the clinic for consultations, programmes are typically priced higher than online treatment, and treatment plans often bundle in-clinic procedures (PRP, laser) that add cost for uncertain benefit. For pattern hair loss that can be treated with medication, most men don't need this route and Magna's hybrid model gives you the in-person option if you do.

3. Your GP plus a pharmacy

GPs can prescribe finasteride, and Regaine (5% topical minoxidil) is over the counter. It's a legitimate route.

Trade-offs

Getting the right diagnosis, treatment, dosage, ongoing care and treatment adjustments if its not working is not what most GPs do every day; compounded options like topical finasteride or oral minoxidil need a GP willing to write a compounded script and a pharmacy that will make it; and you're managing repeat scripts and follow-ups yourself. Cost-wise it usually lands higher than online once you add the visits — see the hair loss treatment cost guide.

4. Ordering from overseas

Covered above: without a NZ prescription it's not legal to import, Customs holds it, and you have no idea what's in the bottle. Don't.

Why a New Zealand service is the better option anyway

It's easy to assume a big US brand is the gold standard and a local one is the compromise. For a prescription medicine and doctor led care, it's the other way round.

A doctor who can actually be responsible for you

A NZ-registered doctor is accountable to the Medical Council of New Zealand, prescribes under NZ law, and can be reached if something changes. That's the whole point of doctor-led treatment.

Medicines made here, to NZ standards

Magna's treatments are compounded by licensed New Zealand pharmacies under the Pharmacy Council's standards, dispensed against your prescription, and delivered within days, not shipped across the Pacific.

Somewhere to go if you need it

The hybrid model matters more than it sounds. Hair loss that turns out not to be pattern loss, a scalp that needs examining, a question a phone call can't answer - that's when having real clinics behind the service matters. A pure-online service can only say "see your GP."

Kiwi-owned, Kiwi-run

Magna is New Zealand owned and operated, staffed by New Zealand doctors, backed by New Zealand clinics and a local team. Your money and your medical care stay here.

Erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation - the other reason men look at Hims

Hims built its name on ED as much as hair loss, and plenty of Kiwi men searching for it are after that. Magna offers the same doctor-led online process for erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation: a private online assessment, a NZ doctor, and treatment delivered discreetly. No clinic visit, no awkward conversation at the pharmacy counter.

How to get started

  1. Take the free online assessment a few questions about your goals and your health. Two minutes.
  2. A NZ doctor reviews it you have a call with our team: to confirm what's going on and what treatment suits you.
  3. Treatment arrives at your door: made in NZ, free delivery, plain packaging, follow-ups included.

FAQs

Does Hims ship to New Zealand?

No. Hims ships within the United States only, with a separate business serving the UK. There's no New Zealand option.

Can I import Hims products into NZ?

Not the prescription ones. Finasteride and ED medication can only be imported for personal use with a valid prescription from a NZ-registered practitioner; parcels without one are held by Customs.

Is there a New Zealand version of Hims?

Magna is the closest equivalent: the same online model — assessment, doctor review, discreet delivery — with New Zealand-registered doctors, NZ compounding pharmacies, and physical clinics behind it for in-person care if you need it.

Is Magna cheaper than Hims?

Hims' US prices don't apply here, so there's no like-for-like comparison. In New Zealand, Magna's plans start from $49 a month with the doctor, medicine and delivery included, and Magna will match a comparable NZ service if you find one cheaper. T&Cs apply.

Can I get Erectile Dysfunction (ED) treatment online in NZ?

Yes - through a doctor-led service with NZ-registered doctors. Magna offers online Erectile Dysfunction (ED) treatment with the same assessment-and-delivery process.

Can I get Premature Ejaculation (PE) treatment online in NZ?

Yes - through a doctor-led service with NZ-registered doctors. Magna offers online Premature Ejaculation (PE) treatment with the same assessment-and-delivery process.

Are the treatments the same as Hims?

Largely, yes. The active medicines finasteride, minoxidil, topical finasteride and minoxidil combinations, premature ejaculation (PE) and erectile dysfunction (ED) medication are the same. The difference is that in NZ they're prescribed by NZ doctors and compounded by NZ pharmacies.

Finasteride, dutasteride, oral minoxidil and prescription ED and PE medicines are prescription medicines in New Zealand. Treatment is subject to assessment and approval by a New Zealand-registered doctor, and individual results vary. Ask your doctor whether treatment is right for you.
